About me

Roshan Patel is an award-winning wildlife and conservation filmmaker. Many of his films explore the intersection of culture and environment, though he sometimes forays into the world of music and social docs.

Roshan earned a BS in Biology and an MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking . He worked in conservation biology, community development and photography before turning to filmmaking as his storytelling craft of choice to shed light on urgent ecological stories. He is a profound believer that storytelling can have an intangible, yet meaningful impact on our understanding of our planet and fellow humans.

He has produced and directed independent films and work often as a producer, director, cinematographer and editor for other documentary film productions. You can find his work publicly online (including Smithsonian, National Geographic and WWF’s channels), on PBS, and in some cases, your local library.

Currently, he is the resident filmmaker and photographer at Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, DC, where he creates short-form web series and films, social media content and exhibit videos.

He is a former board member for Wildlands Network and currently a member of Jackson Wild’s Advisory Council. He also belongs to Green Leadership Trust.
